ABOUT B.I.T.N.

THE LITTLE MERMAID
BITN is a new online magazine, (yeah, alright, a blog), created in partnership with Big Image Systems, the worlds premier Digital Printer for the theatre marketplace.
So let’s get this part out of the way right up front …
To be completely fair, one reason we created B.I.T.N. is to introduce BACKDROPS BY B.I.T.N. the new way to buy theatrical backdrops. Backdrops By B.I.T.N. will combine the incredible talent of designers across the country and our state of the art printing technology to offer you a fresh new way to get the backdrops to fit your vision.
So, are we capitalists? Absolutely. But are we ruthless capitalists? Not by a long shot. I mean, Big Image Systems is owned by the fine people of Sweden. And if there’s one thing everyone knows about Sweden it’s that, while Sweden likes making a profit as much as the next country, it also gave the world
1. The Zipper.
2. Attractive, impossible to pronounce furniture for your first grown up apartment.
3. Pippi Longstocking,
4. and of course …
So while B.I.T.N. is going to be a place to find the best backdrop experience in the market, it’s something else too …
B.I.T.N. was created for you; for the theatre professional. B.I.T.N. will be a place for you to have a national voice, to learn, laugh, think and share. We hope that B.I.T.N. will become place where you can take a second and be cool in the knowledge that every day, across this country, thousands of people like you get out of bed and, despite all the odds, won’t see that bed again until they create theatre.
No one can rest until the cast list is posted and the scripts assigned. Until the set is built. Until the lights are hung and focused, the sound balanced, the costumes sewn, the programs printed, the fake beards and makeup sorted and prepped, until the money is found and spent wisely and on and on and on …
And it seems that everywhere you look the world is right there telling you that theatre is a privilege, not a right. To tell your that your time and thought and effort and care and love might be better directed elsewhere …
Or to tell you that your budgets’ been slashed …
Or that there’s a flood in the pit …
Or the powers out …
Or that you’re crazy …
And then you go ahead and do it all anyway.
And when the clock runs out the lines are learned. The set is built. The lights are all cued up, the sound balanced, the costumes perfected, the programs passed out, the beards glued securely and the tickets sold. And the house lights go down and the show goes up …
And you’ve created theatre.
Then you get up the next day and do it all over again …
B.I.T.N. is for you, pure and simple. We hope you like it.
… Oh, and check out our backdrops when we start putting them on the site!
