WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE GREEN?

IT’S A CORE VALUE …

We realize this means different things to different people.  For Big Image Systems U.S. it means.  For us, it’s something that defines who e want to be as an organization

BUSINESS PRACTICES …

As Andreas Skantze, Big Image’s International Sales Manager, puts it, “If we just tried to comply with the laws, we would only do the minimum required. Our goal is to go beyond that and have a production process that causes no negative impact on the environment while still delivering a very high-quality product.”

“Accomplishing this takes a companywide effort. We minimize the amount of fabric and other materials we use and recycle or properly dispose of excess fabric. We purchase electricity from utilities that rely solely on wind power and obtain heat from a biofuel-powered district heating plant.”

PRODUCTION …

production manager, Richard Eskilsson, explains further: “Big Image philosophy is to use the greenest techniques and products available while still meeting our clients’ strict performance standards. For example, we work closely with clients to efficiently lay out their designs and minimize ‘trim.’ This strategy not only reduces waste because there is less material to reuse or recycle, it can result in cost savings.”

We use fabrics maSubaru Translight back side 1de from recycled fibers whenever possible. Our polyester materials are certified to meet the environmental impact standard Öko-Tex 100 and most of our printing is done with water-based inks. We do not use halogen-based fire retardants, but rather only those that are water-soluble and salt-based. When the only option is to use less than environmentally ideal materials, we focus on the manufacturing process to make sure no harmful chemicals are emitted during production.”

THE HUMAN TOUCH …

Green practices are important for recruiting and retaining the creative, skilled, and professional employees Big Image hires.

As Big Image Vice President Johanna Schäfer explains, “We count on our employees to ensure that everything we produce is 100% perfect. In return, it is only reasonable for them to expect us to provide a work environment that is both safe and comfortable so they can focus on doing their jobs well. Making sure our production facility is properly staffed, equipped, maintained, illuminated, and configured helps to ensure that projects are done correctly the first time, thereby avoiding the waste associated with ‘do-overs.”
